The New Jersey Pinelands TDR program, arguably the most ambitious TDR program in the nation, is described in detail in Beyond Takings and Givings. That book reported that as of 2001, TDR had preserved 31,465 acres. As of July 5 2005, the New Jersey Pinelands TDR program had preserved 42,580 acres, just short of the acreage preserved by the most successful TDR program in the country, Montgomery County, Maryland.

The Lebanon State Forest forms part of the preservation district in the New Jersey Pinelands program.
